April marks the rollout of the Smart Money MI Kids Read, a financial literacy program driven by the Michigan Financial Wellness Network with exclusive funding from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation (MCUF). In 2024, the Smart Money MI Kids Read initiative plans to distribute 16,000 books across Michigan. A significant portion of these books will be handed out at public library events designed to engage children in fun, educational activities centered around money management. Libraries across 61 counties are participating, with many collaborating directly with local credit unions to enrich these events. This initiative not only educates children but also strengthens community ties by using storytelling to teach essential financial skills.
