Stuart Mills Appointed Chair of Statewide Financial Literacy Council
Partners for Children and Families announced on Tuesday that Stuart Mills, its executive director, has been named chair of the statewide Financial Literacy Council. This council, established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2009, plays a crucial role in promoting financial literacy across the state, ensuring residents are equipped with essential financial knowledge.
Mills brings extensive experience to his new role, serving not only as the Executive Director of Partners for Children and Families but also as chairman of The Given Tufts Foundation, Inc., and director of Pinehurst’s Village Heritage. His commitment to financial education is further evidenced by his previous role as executive director of the Moore County Literacy Council.
A former partner at the international law firm Kirkland & Ellis, Mills has long been an advocate for financial literacy, viewing it as a pivotal factor in achieving personal and community goals in Moore County. His dedication was recognized in 2023 when the Moore County Community Foundation honored him as its Man of the Year. “I am grateful to Governor Cooper for this appointment and the chance to advance the Financial Literacy Council’s mission statewide,” Mills said. “Financial literacy often opens doors to opportunities for our residents.”
Partners for Children and Families’ Ongoing Commitment to Early Childhood Development
Partners for Children and Families, a private charity focused on early childhood development in Moore County, continues to make significant strides in supporting children and their families. Development specialist Danielle Rose emphasized their comprehensive approach: “We ensure all individuals and resources in a child’s life work together to build their confidence and essential skills for success in kindergarten and beyond.”
Recently, Partners for Children and Families was chosen as one of three counties to lead North Carolina’s new Tri-Share Child Care pilot program, which includes Moore County and six neighboring counties: Chatham, Cumberland, Hoke, Montgomery, Richmond, and Scotland. This program aims to make high-quality child care affordable and accessible, assist employers in retaining employees, and stabilize child care businesses throughout the state. Employers interested in the Tri-Share program can contact Partners for Children and Families or their local Smart Start partnership for more information.
