Former homeless landlords at Kauhale O Kekaha received a knock on the door the day before Thanksgiving.
A package of holiday treats that had been donated by the Kaua’i Independent Food Bank was delivered specifically by PAL’s employees.
“We wanted to give our residents anything special.” Returning to cover is a difficult process, and some people lack the funds to purchase special meals for the holidays. According to Chief Operating Officer Taylor Kaluahine Lani,” We are thankful for this agreement with the Kauai Independent Food Bank to take them some holiday aloha.”
PAL Kaua’i is a non-profit organization that constructs, repairs, and manages reasonably priced accommodations all over the area. Their Kauhale O Kekaha project focuses on giving previously homeless people service-enriched rented accommodation. They solicit recommendations from businesses that assist people using the Homeless Management Information System to accomplish this. 488 homeless people were found on Kaua’i earlier this year by the 2023 Point-In-Time Matter, a 10% increase from the previous year.
For originally needy people, the holidays can be an especially challenging time. There is a lot of pressure to spend money on these vacation foods that are out of your price range. Programs Director Crystal Caday-Bargayo said, “These Kid areas are an expansion of my ohana, and I am glad to be of company.”
The Beyond Housing Program at PAL offers support enhancement to its tenants to raise their standard of living and help them become self-sufficient. Tenants gain life skills in places like financial literacy arranging entrepreneurs, and small firm management through case management, workshops, or referrals to social services. 11 communities have so far been helped by PAL to find new homes after going without a place to live.
“I’m so appreciative of living here.” Crystal is genuinely assisting us. Content Thanksgiving and many thanks for the delicious meal! a PAL landlord said after getting their holiday package.
