Libraries as Gateways to Financial Knowledge
Pennsylvania’s Auditor General, Timothy L. DeFoor, highlighted the integral role of libraries in promoting financial literacy during a visit to the Osterhout Free Library. Emphasizing that libraries offer much more than books, DeFoor described them as crucial hubs for accessing a variety of educational resources. He noted that a library card is a key tool in the journey toward financial literacy, providing invaluable access to financial information.
“Money$mart Monday” and Educational Initiatives
During his visit, AG DeFoor lauded the launch of “Money$mart Monday,” a series of digital information sessions created in partnership with PSECU. These sessions are designed to help Pennsylvanians, particularly college students, manage their finances effectively by offering advice on budgeting, saving for the future, and understanding student loans. DeFoor expressed his hope that these initiatives would equip young adults with the knowledge necessary for achieving financial independence.
Statewide Commitment to Financial Education
AG DeFoor has been a staunch advocate for financial education across Pennsylvania since the inception of his “Be Money$mart” initiative. Through a variety of programs, including visits to universities and partnerships with organizations like Junior Achievement and local financial institutions, DeFoor has worked tirelessly to enhance the financial literacy of Pennsylvanians. His efforts underscore the importance of understanding financial principles from a young age, aiming to lay a foundation for the state’s future economic success.
