Empowering Seniors with Essential Financial Skills
ALBANY — In celebration of Financial Literacy Month this April, the New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) is partnering with GetSetUp to offer older adults vital financial education through a series of engaging classes. This initiative aims to promote financial independence and confidence, enabling seniors to manage their finances effectively in today’s digital age.
GetSetUp is an online community where older adults can learn, connect, and explore new opportunities. Throughout April, NYSOFA and GetSetUp are providing a variety of interactive classes, including:
- The Era of AI Scams: How to Guard Your Finances – Understand the latest AI-driven scams and learn strategies to safeguard your financial information.
- Basic Small Business Tools on a Budget – Discover affordable tools and resources to start and manage a small business efficiently.
- Financial Wellness: Budget Basics – Learn the essentials of budgeting to maintain and improve your financial health.
- Online Banking: P2P Payments and Digital Wallets – Navigate the complexities of modern banking technologies for safe online financial management.
- Financial Wellness: Building a Future without Debt – Explore strategies to reduce debt and build a secure financial future.
These classes are designed to be accessible and engaging, taught by specially trained peers from GetSetUp who ensure the content is relatable and easy to understand.
Promoting Financial Health and Independence
“Financial literacy is crucial at any age, but it’s especially important for older adults who face unique financial challenges,” said NYSOFA Director Greg Olsen. “Our collaboration with GetSetUp not only provides a platform for learning but also empowers older adults to handle the complexities of modern finance with confidence.
