Introduction
Oakland County, MI – The Oakland County Treasurer’s Office, in collaboration with Oakland Schools, Flagstar Bank, and the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, is excited to announce the call for entries for the Financial Empowerment Art Competition. This unique contest is dedicated to high school students across Oakland County, offering them a platform to express their creativity while enhancing their understanding of financial literacy.
Contest Details
Open exclusively to students attending public high schools within Oakland County, the competition welcomes submissions in various artistic formats including 2-D artworks like drawings, paintings, photography, mixed media, and illustration, as well as video entries. Participants are encouraged to submit their artworks via the Oakland County Treasurer’s Office website by the deadline of March 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
Artistic and Educational Benefits
Robert Wittenberg, the Oakland County Treasurer, highlights the dual benefit of the contest: fostering artistic talent and teaching financial responsibility. “This annual event not only showcases the creative abilities of our students but also embeds crucial financial empowerment lessons within the artistic process,” he remarked. The contest emphasizes the theme of financial empowerment, with judges looking for creativity, artistic execution, and how well the theme is integrated into the submissions.
Prizes and Recognition
Generously supported by Flagstar Bank, the contest offers a total prize pool of $10,000, with awards ranging from $100 for honorable mentions to $1,000 for first-place winners at each grade level. “Flagstar Bank is committed to nurturing the future leaders of our community by providing them a platform where they can translate important financial concepts into inspiring artworks,” said Kim Goethe, director of Government Banking at Flagstar.
Display and Impact
The winning entries, along with all submissions, will be displayed at the Oakland County Treasurer’s Office and featured on their website for one year, celebrating the intersection of financial insight and artistic expression. Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson, Superintendent of Oakland Schools, supports the initiative wholeheartedly: “By merging artistic endeavors with economic understanding, this contest wonderfully captures the essence of comprehensive education.”
