Enhancing Learning Through Technology

On December 10, 2023, the educational landscape at Home Main and Infant School in St. Catherine was significantly enhanced with the inauguration of a new smartroom. Funded by a $60,000 investment from the Digicel Foundation, the smartroom features state-of-the-art Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) tools designed to foster interactive learning. This initiative not only upgrades the school’s facilities but also equips students with the necessary tools to thrive in a digitized educational environment.

Empowering Students and Teachers

The smartroom is furnished with 12 laptops, 12 tablets, an interactive table, a printer, and air conditioning, all secured with smart locks and surveillance cameras. It can accommodate 24 students at a time, providing them access to a modern learning environment. To ensure effective use of these tools, teachers underwent extensive training on leveraging these technologies to enhance educational delivery, particularly in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects.

A Commitment to Future-Ready Education

The Digicel Foundation’s commitment extends beyond this single project, planning to establish 10 smartrooms across the island by 2024. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to bridge the digital divide and foster STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) competencies among students. By integrating advanced technology into education, the foundation aims to prepare young minds for the demands of the 21st century, equipping them with skills to navigate and succeed in a rapidly evolving world.
