RHINELANDER- At the 12th monthly Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl held last week at Nicolet College, students from five Northwoods large universities assessed their proficiency in personal finance and economics. The volunteer Asset Builders of America sponsors the survey bowl-style competition. In order to combat the adverse effects that a lack of success and financial literacy was having, two men who worked in financial buyer protection founded it more than 20 years back. The goal of Asset Builders is to raise financial education throughout the condition.
Going to college or working after high school is truly necessary for people to succeed in society, according to co-founder Richard Entenmann. “They’ll be managing money and making financial decisions, and it wo n’t be all that difficult, really.” Although it may not be logical, learning it is not rocket science, but a little bit of effort is so helpful.
At Three Lakes High School, Julia Eaker is a junior majoring in budgeting. She “absolutely loves” this subject. In the upcoming times, she hopes to gain more business knowledge and answer accounting questions during the contest.
It’s beneficial to have that aspect of business because my mother owns Deja Brew in Three Rivers, Eaker said. Maybe one day I can handle her books, mainly with finance.
What Entenmann refers to as standard, traditional personal finance questions include credit, banking, discounts, and budget.
“Basic economics, simple supply- desire, stuff like that, is really important to know how money works and how personal finance works,” Entenmann said. “Economics underlies all of that.” To keep it entertaining, we tuck in a few recent situations.
John Turek, a junior at Rhinelander High School, participated in the competition last year for the second day. This year’s seeding around saw the group easily defeat a staff from Northland Pines. Turek is eager to respond to the inquiries.
“Personal financing queries, investing, retirement accounts, sort of straightforward thing like that- or something with budgeting.” I believe I may succeed with those since I’m in accounting right now, Turek said. It’s definitely fun, so we should bring in more clubs next month. I really like it a bit.
The pupils competed for awards and rewards. Boyd Financial Services, Heck Capital Advisors, WPS, DFI, NGPF, Rhinelander Partners in Education, Nicolet College, and the Wisconsin Bankers Foundation all provided sponsorship for the function. These organizations also included Peoples State Bank, United States Bank.
Groups from Rhinelander and Three Rivers finished first and second, respectively. For the position competition, both may visit Madison.
