Financial education effect film from QNET wins Gold at MarCom 2023

May 20, 2024

A prominent golden prize has been given to QNET’s intelligent YouTube video FinGreen, which highlights the effects of its financial literacy program, at the 2023 MarCom Awards.

The film, titled “FinGreen: Seeding Financial Literacy for a Brighter Future,” sheds light on QNET’s FinGreen initiative—a peer-to-peer education program intended to enhance financial literacy in poor areas.

The video begins with a startling statistic: only one in three people globally are financially literate. Then it goes into more detail about how FinGreen supports the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations by addressing inequality, encouraging good employment, and fostering economic growth opportunities.

FinGreen, which was first introduced in Turkey and Nigeria in 2022 and later expanded to Ghana in 2020, mainly focuses on women and young people in developing nations.

In the past, compared to men, women have had less exposure to economic companies. Malou Caluza, CEO of QNET, claims that despite recent improvements in access to mobile banking and payment platforms, some people still lack the knowledge necessary to make wise financial decisions.

Financially illiterate people are more susceptible to fraud, less likely to save money, have a lot of debt, and are at higher risk of debt, according to researchers at the International Federation of Accountants.

According to the press release, Mogbeyiro Gbemisola, a 17-year-old Nigerian pupil, shared his experience. “FinGreen had taught me the value of money management. For a safer, more productive future, I’m now dedicated to teaching other younger people in my neighborhood about economic literacy.”

The FinGreen program collaborates with neighborhood experts to evaluate and pinpoint underserved areas that stand to gain the most from increased participation and education. 20 children officers were trained in Nigeria alone during the second phase of the program. These 20 “ambassadors” supported seminars across the nation during the second phase, providing financial training to more than 600 young people in Nigeria.

“FinGreen has transformed my approach to money management,” says 20-year-old Nigerian leader Olaniyi Shalom Anuoluwapo of Teen Girls Entourage. “It has helped my home and I develop a culture of saving, changing our economic practices.”

According to Caluza, the MarCom award highlights the film’s success in expressing FinGreen’s mission of empowering individuals for community service.

A prestigious global artistic contest is the MarCom Awards. “FinGreen: Seeding Financial Literacy for a Brighter Future” was one of the 6,500 submissions from more than 47 countries this year. The video won a gold prize for exceptional achievement.

The receiver stated that it will rapidly expand the program to Morocco, buoyed by FinGreen’s success in Nigeria, Ghana, and Turkey.
