PAVE’s Mission to Empower Girls in Lagos
In Lagos, Oluwatomi Olunuga’s Platform for Amplifying the Voice and Empowerment of Girls (PAVE) is making strides in transforming young girls’ lives through financial literacy, education, and skill development. Launched as part of the PAVE Fellowship Program 2024, this initiative not only educates young women about economics but also challenges deep-seated gender stereotypes. The program’s recent three-day event themed “Women Rise, Future Thrives” showcased PAVE’s commitment to fostering financial independence and securing a brighter future for these young participants.
Breaking Barriers and Fostering Independence
At the heart of the PAVE initiative is the belief that all children, particularly girls, deserve the opportunity to become financially independent and shape their own futures. Supported by Empower UK and Hacey, the program offers a beacon of hope to girls often facing significant barriers to empowerment and education. Oluwatomi Olunuga, the project leader, emphasizes that PAVE’s efforts extend beyond education, aiming to enhance the health and social well-being of the participants by dismantling the formidable obstacles they face.
Building Skills and Inspiring Change
PAVE’s curriculum promotes leadership, assertiveness, and decision-making, equipping young girls to navigate the challenges prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa. Coaches like Chidinma Uzoukwu inspire these girls to see beyond societal constraints and aim for their dreams by redefining what they believe to be possible. Participants like Gbemase Opeyemi express how the program has taught them invaluable life skills such as integrity and self-confidence. As PAVE continues its year-long project with follow-up sessions, the transformation is evident: girls who once shied away from challenges are now eager to impart knowledge within their communities, indicating the profound and enduring impact of the initiative.
