Empowering Youth Through Financial Education
In celebration of National Financial Capability Month, Bellco Credit Union and Economic Literacy Colorado (ELC) are emphasizing the importance of financial education by offering free “FUNancial$ stores” booklets. These booklets, designed for children and teens, teach real-world financial concepts like distinguishing needs from wants, understanding payment methods, and learning how to save. Available at Bellco’s 29 branches and online, these resources aim to foster financial literacy from a young age.
Collaborative Efforts for Financial Literacy
Since 2019, Bellco and ELC have collaborated to create “FUNancial$ marts” for elementary students, expanding to middle and high school versions in recent years. These booklets help young people make informed financial decisions and prepare for future economic challenges with the support of family or trusted adults. Teachers can also use these resources to promote economic independence in their classrooms, enhancing students’ financial skills.
Commitment to Financial Education
John Rivera, Bellco’s senior vice president and CFO, highlights the importance of developing good money management habits during National Financial Capability Month. Bellco prioritizes equipping young community members with essential life skills for success, and these booklets provide practical financial management context. Amy Sherman, president and CEO of ELC, encourages Coloradans to deepen their financial knowledge to achieve lifelong financial stability, reflecting the program’s success and the ongoing commitment to financial education.
