Osterhout Library as a Hub for Financial Learning
During his visit to the Osterhout Free Library in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor emphasized the library’s pivotal role in educating the community on financial literacy and essential life skills. Recognizing libraries as vital resources, DeFoor highlighted that beyond books, libraries serve as gateways to a wealth of free educational content, including crucial financial information, which is accessible with just a library card.
Launch of “Money$mart Mondays”
The Auditor General introduced the “Money$mart Mondays” series, a collaborative initiative with PSECU designed to guide Pennsylvanians towards financial independence. The inaugural session focuses on educating college students about budgeting, saving for future milestones, and understanding student loans. This program is part of a broader effort to ensure young adults are equipped with the necessary tools to manage their finances wisely from an early stage.
Extensive Financial Literacy Campaigns
AG DeFoor has been dedicated to advancing financial literacy across Pennsylvania for nearly three years. His initiatives include statewide educational tours to highlight the importance of financial knowledge, engaging with university students about fiscal responsibility, and partnering with organizations like Junior Achievement to teach young students the basics of economics. These efforts are supplemented by collaborations with local financial institutions to enhance the availability and quality of financial literacy resources statewide.
