Nurturing Future Leaders in Business and Finance

Each year, a dedicated group of employees from SDN Communications volunteers their time and expertise to mentor students across various school districts via the Junior Achievement (JA) program. This initiative is part of SDN’s commitment to fostering community development through educational contributions, emphasizing work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Junior Achievement plays a pivotal role in preparing young individuals for economic success, helping them make informed decisions about their education and future careers.

Hands-On Learning with Real-World Applications

During a recent session at Frontier Elementary, SDN employees Christina Roth and Mary Pfaff led discussions that brought business concepts to life for the students. Jamie Stanley, a supervisor at SDN and a regular volunteer, highlighted the joy of interacting with students and witnessing their creativity and candid expressions. The program typically involves five one-hour sessions annually, where volunteers like Stanley introduce students to basic economic principles and encourage them to think about how businesses function within their communities.

Inspiring Moments and Lifelong Impact

Shamieko Leonard, another SDN employee deeply involved with Junior Achievement, shared her passion for the program, noting the profound impact of connecting with students and enhancing their understanding of financial and business concepts. Through activities designed to illustrate practical uses of money and introduce the variety of career paths available, volunteers aim to spark moments of realization and inspiration among the students. These interactions not only enrich the students’ learning experience but also reinforce the volunteers’ commitment to nurturing informed, capable future adults.
