Launch of the 2023 Financial Education Campaign
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) together with GCash, a leading financial application in the Philippines, have initiated a Financial Education Campaign aimed at enhancing the financial health of Filipinos, particularly targeting Nano, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (NMSMEs). This collaboration, marked by the signing of a partnership agreement during the SEC’s 87th anniversary, aligns with the SEC’s efforts to promote capital market awareness and improve investor protection. Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno and other notable figures in finance celebrated this milestone, emphasizing the campaign’s potential to foster broader financial inclusion.
Educational Efforts and Public Engagements
The campaign includes a variety of educational efforts designed to empower Filipinos with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions. A highlight of the campaign was a webinar titled “Fulfilling Your Wildest Negosyo Dreams: Smart and Sustainable Investing for Your Business,” which provided insights into investment security, funding avenues, and strategies for MSME growth. Further activities included a seminar at SEC Headquarters focused on shedding detrimental financial habits, aiming to cultivate financial practices that bolster long-term financial security and sustainability.
Ongoing Financial Education and Outreach
The SEC and GCash are committed to continuing their financial education outreach through various platforms. “Usapang Kaperahan With GCash,” a television program, featured discussions on financial management, savings, and investment strategies, facilitated by SEC Chairman Emilio Aquino and GCash Client Success Manager Mark Ilao. These efforts are part of a broader commitment to ensure that Filipinos are well-equipped to manage their finances effectively, safeguard against potential scams, and achieve their financial aspirations through informed and prudent decision-making.
