Financial Empowerment through Education
Danijel Velicki, an alumnus of Fairmont State University, has introduced a pioneering financial education initiative aimed at empowering students with essential financial knowledge. Having experienced firsthand the challenges of managing finances as a young international student from Croatia, Velicki’s journey led him to recognize the critical need for financial literacy among students. His program, launched under his company Sqwire, is designed to offer engaging, practical financial lessons through an online course that has been incorporated into freshman orientation programs across various universities.
A Personal Mission to Foster Financial Confidence
Velicki’s personal struggles with financial management during his college years inspired him to develop a system that simplifies financial education. The program, named Higher Ed, breaks down complex financial concepts into manageable modules that cover topics such as budgeting, debt management, and long-term financial planning. His approach is unique in that it turns traditional financial education on its head by using interactive games and real-world scenarios to teach vital financial strategies in an accessible and relatable way.
This innovative program has already garnered interest beyond academic settings, being adopted by organizations like the United States Air Force and several commercial entities. Velicki’s commitment to financial education reflects his belief that understanding finances can profoundly impact one’s life choices and opportunities. With plans to expand his educational outreach through an upcoming MBA at the University of Oxford, Velicki continues to advocate for financial literacy as a fundamental life skill, proving through his own success that with the right knowledge, financial security is within reach.
