EOTB Celebrates Success of Financial Literacy Training Program

May 18, 2024

Cornwall, Ontario – The Eastern Ontario Training Board (EOTB) recently held a gathering with regional Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) to celebrate the achievements of students who completed the Financial Literacy training program offered by EOTB. This initiative was made possible by a $379,200 Grow grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The program’s aim was to enhance students’ financial skills, enabling them to make informed and effective financial decisions.

Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, underscored the importance of financial education, highlighting that it equips individuals with essential knowledge and skills for managing their finances, resources, and investments. He commended EOTB for successfully implementing the youth financial literacy education initiative. The financial knowledge and skills gained by the students will help them achieve financial independence and reach their financial goals.

Empowering Youth Through Financial Education

The OTF grant, awarded in March 2020, was crucial for the financial education program, funding personnel and software expenses. The program targeted 400 young people from economically disadvantaged households in Western and Francophone communities in Eastern Ontario, aiming to boost their financial literacy and skills. These youths now have the tools to improve their financial independence, benefiting both themselves and their communities.

Martha Woods, Executive Director of EOTB, emphasized the program’s significance in providing young students with essential economic knowledge. She expressed pride in their achievements and the potential for cultivating a financially literate generation. This program not only equips young individuals with practical financial skills but also sets the foundation for a more financially informed society.
