Promoting Financial Literacy in San Juan

On March 20, PenFed Credit Union and EVERFI from Blackbaud organized an influential financial literacy event at Escuela Superior Rafael Cordero Molina in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The workshop catered to over 110 high school students from grades 9 to 12 who had recently completed the “Tu Dinero, Tu SueƱo” (“Your Money, Your Dreams”) program. This program is part of a broader effort to foster financial knowledge through a digital curriculum spearheaded by PenFed in partnership with EVERFI.

Cultivating Future Economic Leaders

PenFed’s commitment to nurturing the financial capabilities of Puerto Rico’s youth is evident as they encourage students to set and achieve their economic aspirations. The collaboration with EVERFI and local educational institutions has been pivotal in providing free, high-quality economic education to over 4,000 students across 39 schools in Puerto Rico over the past five years. These initiatives not only teach essential financial skills but also prepare students for real-life financial decision-making through interactive activities like “speed networking” with finance professionals.

Impact and Recognition

The success of these workshops underscores the positive impact of targeted educational programs in enhancing financial literacy among young people. Reflecting on the program, Ray Martinez, Co-Founder and President of EVERI from Blackbaud, highlighted the exceptional talent and aspirational social impact stories shared by participants. In recognition of their achievements, PenFed awarded scholarships to outstanding students, reinforcing the importance of investing in the financial education of the next generation. PenFed continues to expand its services across Puerto Rico, demonstrating its commitment to empowering communities through education and financial services.
